Biofeedback
When you come in for biofeedback treatment, you will be fitted with a variety of measurement devices. This is completely non-invasive and does not cause pain. These measurement devices measure things like breathing rate, heart rate, temperature in your finger tips, sweat gland activity, muscle tension and how much you are breathing from the abdomen (stomach) instead of your chest. Through biofeedback training, you can actually begin to gain control of these physiological responses by watching a computer monitor that displays easy to understand graphics (feedback) that show you how physiologically activated your body is.
As you learn to master these physiological responses you will learn how you can relax and improve these biofeedback measures. For example, as you learn to relax through gaining feedback:
- Your hands may become warmer and more dry (less cold and clammy)
- Your heartbeat may slow
- You may develop the habit of diaphramatic breathing (breathing from the belly, instead of the chest)
- Your muscles will relax and there may be less muscle tension
- You will feel more at ease
- You may feel less pain
Biofeedback is helpful in the treatment of:
